Metroland Readers Pick: Best Local Poet

Congratulations to R.M. Engelhardt, for the third year in a row, for coping this much coveted award.
Also, congratulations to Mary Panza for being "No. 2", but we all know she is always Number One in our hearts.
And can anyone can tell me what was the last poetry reading/open mic "Taina Asili" has been to? In fact, what was the last reading/open mic Rob attended (other than his feature at NightSky - see my Blog on that one)?

Anyways, the official results are:
Rob: 3 votes
Mary: 2 votes
Taina & me (we tied): 1 each.

Hey, that's Democracy at work. Isn't that why our troops are in Iraq?

You can generally check Taina Asili out at The Red Square, Cafe Lena and other venues across the country...

Gee, "Anonymous", what took you a year to respond?
I guess ole Taina was too busy giving readings at "venues across the country" to show up in Albany; haven't seen her since.

Hey Dan,
I am the sister of Victorio Reyes, the director of the Social Justice Center. Maybe we should do a reading together sometime...

That's a really weird response. Humbleness is not your forte, huh?

a host of one of our very few open mic's bashing a new-comer poet to the capital region? really?

no offense dan, but i personally know at least three people who voted for taina...so it couldnt have been just one vote.

also taina has not lived in albany for long but those have heard her poetry and music were SO excited to claim her as finally one of "albany's poets"... thats how good she is.

and one more thing...i really dont think the albany poetry/open mic scene is big and strong enough to with stand animosity and internet (public) bashing from one of its key organizers...which, i understand you to be dan. not good "host" skills for sure.

and its my guess it took taina a year to respond because not everyone reads your blog dan...not even everyone who is interested in poetry in albany.

its too bad...i feel like the chances of hearing taina now at an albany poetry open mic might be diminished....but wether or not she is one of albany's best poets is really independent of that.
